What Is An Aftertreatment Hydrocarbon Injector?
An Aftertreatment Hydrocarbon Injector (AHI); otherwise known as a 7th injector or an Aftertreatment Fuel Injector plays a key role in an emissions compliant heavy duty trucks DPF regeneration process. Once the AHI receives a signal from the engines ECM it sprays diesel fuel accordingly into the exhaust stream therefore creating a major increase in exhaust temperature allowing the truck to complete the DPF regeneration.
Common Issues
Although the Aftertreatment Fuel Injector may work thoroughly to increase exhaust temperature, they have common issues of getting face plugged at the injection ports causing all sorts of problems with the aftertreatment system of the truck. Many engine manufacturers recommend cleaning intervals to prevent this issue from getting out of hand. Every time an injector is cleaned it is necessary to purchase a gasket kit which often times includes unnecessary bolts and spacers that are not cost effective. Purchasing FleetRun AHI gasket kits eliminates that issue by providing just the gasket and isolator which can save individuals and fleets more money on parts.
