Failed bushings in the steer axle leaf springs or upper shackle brackets can cause your Volvo truck to shake, sometimes it can be noticed if you press the brakes firmly while coming to a stop. Failed bushings DOES NOT mean you need to replace your leaf springs, a repair shop can just replace the bushings if necessary (recommended to replace all 3 bushings on each leaf spring).

Steer tire wear

Poor or premature wear can also be a sign of a failed leaf spring and/or bushings, please note this is not always the case and is recommended to verify the cause with a qualified repair facility.

How do I know if my truck needs new leaf springs?

Some definite signs are:

  • broken spring(s)
  • failed bushings (verify free play or damage with a repair shop)
  • truck front end leaning to one side and the leaf spring has flattened out
  • uneven and/or steer tire wear patters
